Data & Tech @Coface Ep 5: Meeting with Aroni Chaudhuri, Economist

GDP, export volumes, inflation, political and social risk index: today, economists' work is fundamentally data-driven. Their assessments of a country or sector's commercial risk fully integrate data and advanced analytical solutions. In this new episode, our colleague Aroni Chaudhuri shares his challenges and explains how he leverages data and tech to offer unique insights to our clients and help them trade smarter.

Data-driven management is not limited to business decision-makers. At Coface, data is the daily tool of our economists to build macroeconomic forecasts and scenarios. A good example? Our country risk assessments! They are based on a statistical model using millions of data points from multiple sources, allowing our clients to quickly visualise the level of risk in a country to feed their business decisions.

‘Without data, you can't properly analyse an economic situation’

And with more than 160 countries and 13 sectors evaluated each quarter, economists need access to smart data, updated in real time and actionable easily to transform Big Data into unique insights on credit risk.

"Without data, you can't properly analyse an economic situation. And, at the same time, data is not really useful until it is processed and explained", emphasises Aroni Chaudhuri, economist for Africa.

Coface's economists, who work with risk underwriters and credit analysts as well as with the Data Scientists and Machine Learning engineers of the Data Lab, are the hub of our data-centric organisation and our value creation model in commercial risk management. Ultimately, the unique information and the decision-making solutions generated by our economists benefit all our stakeholders: Coface risk experts (risk underwriters, underwriters), our client and broker partners, as well as the media and the broader public.
