During the previous conference, in 2023, we looked to the horizon for an improvement in the economic condition in Poland, Europe and the world.
The year 2024 has indeed brought a slight recovery, but unfortunately not as big as we would have liked. The economic situation in our country, although improving, is still limited in real terms by the persistently weak economic performance of Germany, our main trading partner.
The low unemployment rate and rising wage levels support the growth in consumer spending, which is not a consumption boom due to the increased propensity of Poles to save. In turn, the high level of geopolitical risk means that there is still a lot of uncertainty globally. Not only the European political scene, but also possible changes in the United States may have significant consequences for our continent.
In such a difficult economic environment, companies are not only facing a subdued recovery, but also pressure on margins. The consumer remains price-sensitive, and the labor market situation, which is favorable for employees, is an increasing burden for employers, contributing to the increase in operating costs. Accelerating economic growth will not be a remedy for the microeconomic challenges that companies are experiencing. In an uncertain business environment, it is even more important to quickly identify and recognize risks, and then appropriately adapt to changing market conditions. These remain demanding, as is already indicated by the growing number of corporate insolvencies.
During the Coface conference, our guests have the opportunity to learn about the latest macroeconomic analyses, trends in global markets, factors that currently shape the economy in Poland and around the world.
